Welcome in the turquoise garden!
During this year’s Aarhus Festival, det turkise telt invites you to drop by the oasis right beside our musical meeting point, turkis.
Here, you will experience a small world of sound, light, smells and that specific feel you know from the turquoise universe.

The program stretches from August 31st to September 3rd and contains concerts and dance shows, film screenings and workshops, inspiration and spirit. All of our events are helt on our two stages: the garden stage and the stage at turkis. 

Access
the turquoise garden is for all ages and inspirations, so don’t hesitate to bring your children, grandmothers or best friends. 

There will be free access to the activities in the turquoise garden, but be aware that workshops may need subscribtion or a minor fee. You subscribe via the link under your chosen workshop below. 

There will be a ticket fee for the concerts at turkis. Buy your tickets below.

The garden stage

Shika Moyo: Choir and singing together

18:00 - 19:30 /Free

Shika Moyo is a choir from Aarhus that sings new and old Sukuma songs from Tanzania. In the turquoise garden, Shika Moyo will spread a sense of community, their joy of singing and the harmonies their many unique voices through both choral arrangements and group singing. So drop by the garden on Wednesday evening and sing along!

Vipepeo: Dance show

19:30 - 20:00 /Free

Vipepeo is a dance group from Aarhus based on Tanzanian culture, dancing and drumming. The group dances different styles from Sukumaland in Northern Tanzania. Sukuma Dance is danced to the music from traditional handmade African drums, and at the Vipepeo show you will experience the grooviest rhythms accompanied by authentic and energetic drum dance!

Kalaha x

Aarhus Jazz Orchestra: Concert

20:00 - 22:00 /Entrance

Sparks fly when the acclaimed electronic desert rock band Kalaha meets the 13 winds of Aarhus Jazz Orchestra at the intersection of jazz improvisation, West African funk and electro rave for the release concert of their joint album. Coe and join us for the bid night and don’t forget to buy your ticket!

Magical Mie paints faces

16:00 - 17:00 /Free

Drop by the turquoise garden as Magical Mie transforms small and tall into wild animals, flower children, grim monsters or applies throwback makeup on you as you wore it in the 80s... In fact, only imagination sets the limits, Mie's magical paint has none.

Hamraaz: Concert

18:00 - 19:00 /Free

Lucie and Khorshid met in Rotterdam where they established the duo Hamraaz. On Duduk and Tanbour, they create music with great inspiration form the Turkish Makam music and give the traditional harmonies and rythms a strong and up-to-date energy. It's pure power when Hamraaz sets the tone for today's Eastern folk music!

LUNI: DJ

19:00 - 21:00 /Free

Louis Rosenkrantz aka. LUNI is an Aarhus-based DJ and producer. In addition to creating terrific ambient sound productions and DJ sets, Lui is also a significant figure in the electronic music environment where he has founded both the music collective FEUM and the electronic nightclub Double Rainbow.

The Boy and the World:


Cinema for children

Join us when the turquoise garden in collaboration with Øst for Paradis shows the musical and absolutely extraordinary Brazilian animated film The Boy and the World. Here, a boy sets out to search for his father, who has jumped on the train to find work in an unknown city. It all happens when a wind blows in through the bedroom window and takes him out into the big world. Take your child by the hand and dive into a musical story where the language stops and the music begins.

Malungos x Loftsound:

Brazilian workshop

Malungos is a warm and cozy Capoeira collective for the cultivation of Brazilian music and movement. In collaboration with the culture-exploring collective Loftsound, Malungos will host a workshop where Capoeira is combined with the smooth Brazilian tones and rhythms. The workshop is open for everyone - just remember to signup on the button below!

Basco & Jullie Hjetland: Concert

20:30 - 22:00 /Entrance

Basco is award-winning Nordic folk music at its best. Along with the Danish/Norwegian singer Jullie Hjetland, the group interprets legends and myths from the old Nordic countries with a musical primordial force and a narrative sound universe. Come and dive into music and lyrics that steam emotions - transmitted through a captivating presence and performance.

OJA: Dance show

18:00 - 18:30 /Free

OJA is an Aarhusian dance group - and somewhat of a turquoise legend! The group dances traditional West African dance, and takes you on a journey through countries such as Ghana, Guinea and Senegal. Join in and get carried away by the groovy drum rhythms and powerful dance moves!

Malungos x Loftsound:

Brazilian jam

20:00 - 21:30 /Free

Malungos is a warm and cozy Capoeira collective for the cultivation of Brazilian music and movement. In collaboration with the culture-exploring collective Loftsound, Malungos will host a jam session under the title “Collective Get Down”. Feel the Brazilian rythms and musical laidbackness flow freely!

OJA: Dance workshop

Do you want to try dancing traditional West African dance? Come and join this workshop, facilitated by the local dance group - and turquoise legend - OJA. You are guaranteed a bit of sweat on your forehead as well as a smile on your face when the group takes you to Ghana, Guinea and Senegal through drum rhythms and dance steps. All levels are welcome - just remember to sign up!

Aliband: Concert

21:30 - 22:30 /Free

Ejaz Sher Ali is one of the rising stars in Pakistan He is out of one of the biggest Pakistani music families, Meher Ali & Sher Ali, where he is now regarded as the crown prince, taking over the family orchestra. Ali is known for singing the sacred Qawwali music, and this Friday night he does it with an Aarhusian band constellation under the name Aliband.

Somali Community

in Denmark: Folk dance and song

13:30 - 15:00 /Free

Join us for a moving Saturday afternoon when the Somali Community In Denmark and Familie Netværk takes the stage in the turquoise garden! Here you can enjoy Somali folk dance for girls and a live song show. It will be a heartwarming experience and a look into the exuberant Somali traditions.

Azur Azur: Concert

17:00 - 18:00 /Free

The trio AZUR AZUR has its starting point in its shared Nordic folk music traditions. Together, contrabassist Frederik Mensink, pianist Jonathan Fjord Bredholt and violinist Rasmus Brinck challenge the genre and develop a new and modern sound around Mesink's sophisticated and evocative compositions.

Sabar show: Rythm and Dance

19.30-20.00 /Free

Sabar dance is a high energy performance where new rhythms are created through drumming, choreographies and solos. The show consists of drumsolos with Mod’thiam, dancesolos with Amdy and choreographies from Senegal.

Yogakoncert with Nikita Lindholm Christensen & Maher Mahmoud

On Saturday morning, you can stop by the turquoise garden and practice yoga. Here, yoga instructor Nikita Lindholm Christensen will guide us through gentle movements to the sound of the renowned oud player Maher Mahmoud. The instruction takes place at a level where everyone can participate, so all you have to do is remember your own mat and enjoy the smooth tones from the oud!

Habibi Bingo!

Sabar:

Sabar dance workshop

18:15 - 19:00 /Sing up for 30 KR

Sabar is a senegalese dance. Sabar dance is a high energy performance where new rhythms are created through drumming, choreographies and solos. Our workshop introduces fun and groovy basic steps to get the body moving, and afterwards we will do a Sabar-choreography with the drums. The workshop is open for all levels.
